In just over three weeks, Dakota County has gone from zero COVID-19 cases to over 1,000.
The Dakota County Health Department reported 25 new positive tests for the virus on Monday, bringing the county’s total to 1,005 cases. Only Hall County (1,170) has more positive tests in the state, according to numbers from the Central District Health Department in Grand Island.
No additional deaths have been reported. Dakota County’s second death was reported over the weekend, a woman in her 60’s who was an employee at Tyson Fresh Meats in Dakota City.
More than 660 tests were attributed to the Dakota City food-processing plant, according to a story last week in the Sioux City Journal. Company officials have refused to release numbers as to how many employees have been tested and how many have tested positive.
