The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department updated its COVID-19 case totals tonight (May 13) and there are now 22 known positives within Thurston County.

In all, eight positive cases were added to the district’s total to bring it to to 56. In addition to Thurston County’s total, the other counties in the area are Cedar (6), Dixon (24) and Wayne (4).

Today’s patients are residents in Dixon, Thurston and Wayne Counties and include five females and three males including people in their 20s, 40s and 60s.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is also reporting on its interactive map one death in Thurston County, but according to the NNPHD that has not been confirmed. The Pender Times will update that information as soon it is known.

This wouldn’t be the first time information on the DHHS map does not match data from the public health district. In fact, the first time a case was reported in Thurston County it was in error.

UPDATE: The NNPHD has confirmed that the death assigned to Thurston County on the DHHS map is incorrect.
