The Northeast Nebraska Public Health District reported today (Friday, June 12) two more COVID-19 deaths within its four-county service area that includes Thurston, Cedar, Dixon and Wayne Counties.

The NNPHD did not specify which of the four counties the residents who died live. They are both younger individuals, however, with one a child and the other in their 20s. Both had underlying health conditions.

The NNPHD said that more information would be released, but not at this time.

At this time, there have been six total deaths within the NNPHD, three confirmed within Thurston County and one in Dixon County. Again, the county or counties related to today’s announcement have not been released.

The Pender Times will update this story if more information is released.

Thurston County’s latest total of COVID-19 positive cases is 142.

“We are saddened by this news and what our neighbors are experiencing as a result of this virus,” states Julie Rother, NNPHD Health Director.  “Please remember to practice the social distancing, wearing a face mask in public, washing hands often and staying home when sick to help slow the spread of the virus.”
